Proposed Bylaws Change - Vote Needed
Share |

I have an exciting announcement to make to all active voting members of ACAM.  As many of you know, there are a growing number of other Integrative Medicine education organizations and Internet based educational venues where people can choose to learn. ACAM was the first and only organization of its kind and we still remain an important leader in this educational field. Our effort to keep ACAM successful and at the leading edge of quality education is requiring us to look differently at the make up of our membership.  After much discussion and a unanimous vote by the Board of Directors, we have come to the conclusion that the membership of ACAM needs to be more diverse and inclusive of other healthcare practitioners.

Since its inception and until 2013 the only active voting members of ACAM were M.D.'s and D.O.'s.  Last year the Board presented a vote to the membership asking them to include licensed Naturopathic Doctors (N.D.’s) as full voting active members.  There was overwhelming support with 92% of votes welcoming N.D.'s and so the bylaws were revised. Now, almost a year later, ACAM leadership and the Board of Directors are further recommending we change the bylaws to include other licensed healthcare practitioners so they may enjoy full active voting member status. We now feel
ARNP’s (Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners), Physician Assistants, Dentists, and Chiropractors should also be given this opportunity.

These additional practitioners are dedicated healthcare workers who have long supported ACAM by going to our conferences and workshops both as presenters and attendees.  Many of them have been paying members of ACAM, but only at the “Affiliate” or “Associate” status levels with no voting privileges.  It only makes sense that they should also be able to play a more active role in shaping ACAM’s future.

Of course all members, no matter what their license, need to be in good standing with their medical licensing authorities, need to go through the full ACAM credentialing process and meet all other ACAM admission criteria.

Changes to our Bylaws require a simple majority of the counted votes of “Active” ACAM members.  Therefore, the Board of Directors is now presenting you with the opportunity to make a decision on this very important matter.  Further in this e-mail are the old bylaws as they are presently written followed by the amended bylaws we hope to put in place.   Click Here: Vote Now

As President of ACAM, I support these proposed changes and feel they will not only help ACAM grow its membership but also help us be a more successful organization.   Thank you for your participation in this very important matter and let your voice be heard.

Allen “Buddy” Green, M.D.
President of ACAM
