PATHWAYS FOR CELLULAR, NEUROLOGICAL AND LIVER DETOXIFICATION
Friday, November 9: 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
ABOUT THE LECTURE:
The history of naturopathic, integrative, and functional medicine is riddled with detox “reactions”, “backfires”, “herxheimer reactions”.  Many of these reactions are avoidable if pathways for detoxification are understood, especially the paths of the liver. The two most common aspects of successful detoxification missed by detox programs are: 1) matching liver detoxification upregulation to bile flow, and 2) binding toxins once they get to the GI tract so that they are not reabsorbed.  Proper movement of toxins through the liver is intimately tied to bile movement. Endotoxin and certain mycotoxins are common examples of chemicals that can cause intrahepatic cholestasis (blocked flow of bile from the hepatocyte to bile tree). This also blocks toxin export from liver to the GI tract and results in toxins and bile salts being exported to the blood. Failing to support bile transport and the resulting “back-fire” into the blood can cause or exacerbate neurological symptoms, kidney stress, or skin eruptions.  On the other hand, failing to absorb the toxins onto solid binders in the GI tract allow the toxins to poison the GI tract and/or reabsorb into circulation, with similar symptom aggravation listed above for bile stagnation.  Despite the importance of “binders”, different binder types and functionality are generally very poorly understood.  This lecture will outline the major types of binders and what classes of chemicals they work for, how to combine them, and how to keep liver detoxification reactions balanced with bile flow.

ABOUT DR. SHADE:

Dr. Christopher Shade, PhD, founder and CEO of Quicksilver Scientific, continues to be the driving force of development and innovation. Dr. Shade’s vast depth and breadth of knowledge, passion for healing, and intuitive understanding of chemistry and biology are reflected in Quicksilver Scientific’s well-designed detoxification protocols, unique supplement delivery systems, and patented mercury speciation test. Dr. Shade is in high demand as a lecturer and is beloved for his amiability and quick (silver) wit. It is because of Dr. Shade’s many innovations and charismatic personality that Quicksilver Scientific is well recognized globally.

Dr. Shade is a recognized expert on mercury and liposomal delivery systems. He has lectured and trained doctors in the U.S. and internationally on the subject of mercury, heavy metals, and the human detoxification system. Dr. Shade developed the patented liquid chromatographic mercury speciation technology used at Quicksilver Scientific while conducting his PhD dissertation work with advisor Robert Hudson at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This technology was used to create the Mercury Tri-Test.

Dr. Shade's current focus is on the development of cutting-edge, lipid-based delivery systems for nutraceuticals, such as liposomes and micro-emulsion systems, to address the growing need of high quality, affordable detoxification solutions.
