Victory in Virginia! Following sustained grassroots opposition form ANH-USA members and others, the Virginia Joint Commission on Health Care unanimously voted against moving forward with a bill that would have removed non-medical exemptions to vaccination. Thanks to ANH-USA members in Virginia who took action on this important issue. ANH-USA will be on the lookout for any future attempts to remove freedom of choice.

MEMBERSHIP AUTO-RENEWAL BEGINS JANUARY 1st
Approved at the September Annual meeting by the Board of Directors, ACAM membership auto-renew will begin as of January 1, 2017. This Auto Renew Policy (ARP) has been established to help our members save time and ensure their membership continues automatically. Many of our members believed an ARP was already established - as of January 1st all ACAM members will be enrolled in the ARP, which will allow memberships to automatically renew each year upon renewal notice or joining. ACAM will do the rest!

Have questions about the ARP? Don't want to be enrolled automatically? Please CLICK HERE for a more detailed information on ACAM's ARP and frequently asked questions.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR VOTE
Restructured ACAM Membership Categories Approved
The ACAM Executive Committee and the Board of Directors thanks everyone who participated in the 2016 membership restructure vote - the measure passed with a quorum of eligible voters and will be put into effect immediately. This restructuring was made to change ACAM's membership categories to meet today's marketplace. Please share the updated membership categories with your colleagues and within your networks - ACAM is hopeful the newly revamped categories will bring new blood into the society and, with that, lots of new ideas to extend the reach of integrative medicine worldwide. These changes brought with them updates to the ACAM Bylaws and the Policies & Procedures manual. Please review at your convenience - links will be updated on acam.org within the month.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS), both radical and non-radical, are formed continuously in all cells and they are indeed part of physiological and metabolic processes. Under normal physiological conditions there is a balance between the generation of ROS and the body's ability to appropriately quench them.  When the capacity to quench is exceeded, varying degrees of oxidative stress can ensue.  When sustained major oxidative stress occurs, radical oxygen species such as the hydroxyl radical can cause oxidative damage to important macromolecules such as DNA.  The hydroxyl radical (.OH) readily oxidizes guanosine nucleobases and most of the resultant 8-OH-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OH-dG) is excised and excreted in urine. 8-OH-dG is the most heavily studied biomarker of excessive intracellular oxidative stress (over 6,200 articles). The level of 8-OH-dG in urine is an important clinical biomarker of oxidative damage to DNA, degenerative diseases, accelerated aging processes, excessive exposure to metals, and cancer. READ MORE

Over the past few decades, we've seen a revolution in our thinking about cancer, how to overcome it, and, when the disease persists, how to control it over the long term.  This revolution stems from the recognition that cancer can't develop and progress without an adequate blood supply to deliver nutrients and metabolites to the tumor. This means that an expanding vascular network is needed to keep pace with the growing mass of cells.

The overall process, known as neovascularization, refers to various aspects of blood vessel growth.  The best studied of these aspects is the generation of new blood vessels from pre-existing vessels, a multifaceted process known as angiogenesis.
