STATEMENT:

This statement is a declaration that I am willing and able, if elected, to serve on the Board of Directors for ACAM, the American College for Advancement in Medicine.  My desire to serve on the Board is firstly to carry on the mission of ACAM, to “educate physicians and other healthcare practitioners about the safe and effective application of integrative medicine.”  Because I am a naturopathic doctor, I have a special interest in promoting the message of ACAM to other naturopathic doctors nationally and would be thrilled to be part of the movement to enhance ACAM’s membership as a whole and specifically naturopathic doctors.  I feel that high-caliber integrative organizations like ACAM will be instrumental to the cause of national licensure for naturopathic physicians.  Again, I would be honored to serve on the ACAM Board of Directors and I thank you for your time in considering me for this position.

LYN PATRICK, ND
CURRICULUM VITAE

CURRENT EMPLOYMENT:
Medical Director at Progressive Medical Education, Inc.
Faculty Member at The Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine

BIO:
Lyn Patrick ND graduated from Bastyr University in 1984 with a doctorate in naturopathic medicine. Doctors of naturopathic medicine are trained in all aspects of family health and wellness, from pediatrics to geriatrics. Licensed naturopathic physicians have attended a 4-year graduate level program at accredited institutions where they receive the same basic science education as their counterparts in regular medical school. In addition, they receive training in holistic, non-toxic therapies and develop skills in homeopathy, clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, acupuncture, and lifestyle counseling. Although Colorado does not currently license qualified naturopathic physicians, they are licensed in 15 states and the District of Columbia as well as all provinces in Canada.

STATEMENT:

My history with ACAM began in 2006 when Dr. Ken Bock asked me to come on the Board as an Advisor to represent and begin to build bridges with the naturopathic profession. It was during my time on the Board that licensed naturopathic physicians were granted full memberships and I would like to think that my presence contributed to that effort. I also assisted in creating and establishing educational offerings and ACCME adherence and design to a curriculum template that could be continually improved upon and utilized. I remained on the Board until 2012 when I left to pursue building an online continuing education company, a venture that would take all of my time and energy. It is now stable and thriving so that I can return to other pursuits.

Dr. Green and Dr. Bauerschmidt have invited me to rejoin the Board, an invitation I will happily accept. ACAM has a history of leading the movement for a New Medicine, a medicine that is effective and dear to my heart,  and actually adheres to the precept of “tolle causum” (something we took an oath to follow when we graduated from our respective medical education institutions). It is challenging to be a doctor in this time in society, and to lead an organization that offers a path out of the current medical model. A path that is desperately needed by physicians looking to actually practice intelligent medicine, uncontrolled by pharmaceutical interests and as desperately needed by patients.
