From the Director's Desk
Michael Boutot, ACAM Executive Director
In historic event, ACAM welcomes first ever ND to the ACAM Board of Directors
Earlier this year in a historic vote of nearly 9-1, ACAM opened its doors to allow Naturopathic Physicians (NDs) full membership to ACAM. This came from the unanimous support of our Executive Committee and existing Board of Directors. But there were questions as to whether or not the general membership at the time (not including any NDs) would approve such a vote per the required by-laws.

Creating a Wellness Program for Your Patients

This webinar will introduce you to the dynamic Wellness Inventory program, a premium patient-engagement program for improved health and wellbeing. Register now: Nov. 7 or Nov. 14.

We will demonstrate how it can add a new wellness dimension to your practice and tap your entire patient base for participation in your co-branded wellness program, while increasing patient engagement and increasing office visits (well visits).

Learn how integrating the wellness and treatment models creates a more dynamic and comprehensive model for serving your patient’s needs.

We will provide a live demo to show how the Wellness Inventory’s features can:
  • Create a membership-based Wellness Program for your patients.
  • Improve year-round engagement with your patients.
  • Increase patient participation in their health and wellbeing.
  • Add new revenue with increased office visits and wellness coaching services.
  • Improve patient outcomes.
The program can demonstrate your commitment to helping your patients become more engaged in improving their health and wellbeing. It can also be used as a way of reaching out and engaging patients who are less active in your practice.

The Wellness Inventory program is offered to ACAM members at an exclusive member discount.

The program is based on the work wellness pioneer John W. Travis, MD, MPH, who opened the first wellness center in the US in 1975 after completing a Preventive Medicine residency at Johns Hopkins.

When the flu grips
By Dr. John Gannage, MD
I have outlined flu prevention strategies beyond the flu shot in the past: handwashing; salt water nose drops; warm beverages, including chicken broth; Vitamin D optimization; probiotic use; avoiding the immune weakening effects of sugar.

I’ve also discussed the timing of the cold and flu vis-a-vis key occurrences on the schedule in October/November: huddled indoors (Vit D levels dropping); back to school (the sharing of germs); Halloween (massive increase in sugar intake); increased antibiotic use (reduction in immune strengthening bowel flora).

The immune system, cancer and thymus extracts
Dr. Antonio Jimenez, M.D.
You are doing as well as your immune system is doing. This sweeping statement is as true for a child dealing with a cold as it is for someone dealing with advanced cancer. The immune system is one of the most complex biological systems in the body whose sole function is to keep us healthy from foreign invaders.

Teething time for stem cell therapy
    Pune Mirror
Your child's milk teeth could now save lives, with a new technology being developed over the last two-and-a-half years wherein stem cells are extracted from the pulp of fallen milk teeth, which has already found hundreds of takers in the city. A more common version of this sort of therapy harvests haematopoietic stem cells contained in the umbilical cord blood, to treat various blood-related disorders such as leukemia, thalassemia or lymphoma.
